The present work, in the first time on example of the country, gives a complex study of the problems of functioning commercial banks and the scientific analysis of the below given issues: The role of Georgian commercial banks is strengthening the banking system in the conditions of transitional economy was studied;
      Conceptual bases for the provision of Georgian commercial banks by the resources are given and analyzed.
      Factoring operations, their significance, economical aspects and prospects of development of factoring in Georgia have been analyzed;
      Terms and factors determining reliability and stability of commercial banks, their defining indices and methodology ensuring the mechanism of standards system and significance of their practical application have been characterized;
      Determining terms and factors of reliability and stability of commercial banks have been formulated, their characteristics were given and concrete measures in this direction were determined;
      The issue is raised on the necessity of creation the deposit insurance system in Georgia. The principles and directions of creation this system and the sources for formation of the deposit insurance funds were defined;
      Formation of conceptions for determination the liquidity of commercial banks is described. Economical standards of regulation the liquidity of commercial banks by observance of the experience of the advanced foreign states were studied and relevant conclusions as well as concrete measures-recommendations with the view of their perfection were given;
      The ways of perfection, the essence, forms, functions of investment activity and investment portfolios of commercial banks were given. The factors, affecting the investment activity of commercial banks and their interconnection were given.
      Paths of perfection of financial coefficients system of complex estimation of activity of commercial banks have been elaborated;
      The issue of expediency of creation the institute of sanitation for commercial banks and its organizational-structural layout is set forth. The rights and functions of the sanitation institute were determined and ways of their perfection are offered.

     Professor Irakli Kovzanadze has written more than 50 scientific works in mathematics and economics, including four books:

  1. "Some aspects of dimension theory of mesocompact spaces" (1990, in Russian);

  2. "Problems of Functioning of Georgian Commercial Banks on the current stage" (2001, in Georgian, summary in English and Russian;

  3. "Systemic banking crises in the conditions of financial globalization" (2003, in Russian, summary in English);

  4. "Economic and banking system development trends and prospects for countries in tranzition" (2005, in Russian, summary in English).

     The author presented reports on mentioned subjects at:

     The author has long experience of working in the banking system. At this time he also works as a professor of Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.

     At present Mr. Kovzanadze is a head of the financial-budgetary committee at parliament.
